A new type of library has opened in Colorado. It is the first public nature library in the United States. Visitors can borrow thousands of books and 850 special kits. These kits include wildlife cameras, microscopes, garden tools, and hiking gear. The library wants to help people connect with the natural world. It is free for everyone in Adams county.
Mark Fink is the director of the library. He says many people find it hard to access nature. The library offers workshops on birdwatching, gardening, and hiking. The building itself is eco-friendly. It has 370 solar panels and a geothermal heating system. Outside, there are eight different gardens and a hiking trail. Children can play in a boulder field made from local rocks.
Paula Jensen visited the library with her 88-year-old mother. Her mother enjoyed walking in the rock garden with her walker. She borrowed a wooden puzzle and a Danielle Steel book. She was surprised that everything was free. Paula plans to borrow a book about drought-friendly gardens. Colorado is facing a water shortage, and she wants to learn how to save water at home.
