A big dance festival started in 1981. It is in Montpellier, France. The festival is very important for modern dance. Many people come to see it. A man named Jean-Paul Montanari led the festival for many years. Last year, he stepped down. Four new leaders took over. Their names are Hofesh, Jann, Dominique and Pierre.
This year has many great shows. One show is Imminentes by Jann Gallois. Six women dance for one hour. They start slowly in pairs. Then they join together and move faster. The music gets louder. The lights get brighter. Some people say it is too showy. But most people love it.
Another show is Le Pas du Monde. A circus group named Collectif XY makes it. This group also worked on the Paris Olympics. The dancers make tall human towers. They also fly through the air. The show looks at how people work together. It shows how hard it is to stay strong. There is also a show from Belgium. And a show from Tunisia about memory and music. The festival runs until July 4th.
