Chris Martin of Coldplay wrote a song intended for the 1999 James Bond film The World Is Not Enough. The acoustic recording, made on cassette tape, has never been released publicly. Now the demo is being sold at auction by producer Chris Allison, who worked with the band during their formative years. It remains unclear whether Coldplay ever formally submitted the track to the film's producers.
Allison is auctioning a broader archive of early Coldplay material alongside the Bond demo. The collection includes master tapes from The Blue Room, the band's second EP released in October 1999, which became their first release for Parlophone after signing with the label in April 1999. Also featured are unreleased alternate versions of tracks that later appeared on their debut album Parachutes, such as Spies, We Never Change, and Shiver.
Coldplay have long been open about their admiration for the Bond franchise. The band previously acknowledged that their track Spies was written with renowned Bond composer John Barry in mind. The 1999 film ultimately featured a title song performed by Garbage, starring Pierce Brosnan as the iconic spy. Beyond Coldplay, Allison's auction includes archival material from other artists he produced, including the Beta Band and King Biscuit Time.
