Dancing on a Volcano: Ensemble Modern Captures Weimar-Era Germany

This is a new album from a music group called Ensemble Modern. Conductor HK Gruber leads the group. The album shows music from Germany between 1920 and 1933. Four composers wrote these pieces: Hindemith, Schoenberg, Weill, and Korngold. The music is lively and full of energy. It was popular in Germany at that time.

The Nazis did not like this music. They called it "too modern, too jazzy, too Jewish". All four composers moved to America for safety. Singer Wallis Giunta sings on the album. A group called Amarcord also plays. The album is a great example of music from a special time in history.
