Femi Koleoso plays drums in the band Ezra Collective. He also works as a DJ and broadcaster for BBC Radio 6 Music. Recently, he received an exciting opportunity. He became a guest editor for The Guardian's Saturday magazine. He was proud to tell his father and his old English teacher. Both were very happy for him.
Femi grew up in north London. His parents came from Nigeria. He started playing drums at church when he was a child. Later, he joined youth clubs and improved his skills. Now he travels around the world with his band. Femi believes there is always reason for hope. He says pain can lead to joy. There can be renewal after hardship.
Femi sees hope most clearly in music. Songs can grow from pain and suffering. These songs then bring happiness to people. Grime music came from tough areas in London. Now people dance to it in clubs. Fela Kuti wrote about his mother's death, and the song became a club hit. Music has the power to transform pain into joy. Femi wants to share stories that bring hope.
