A distinctive green pickle has been observed traversing the London underground, serving as an unexpected yet fitting emblem for the UK's inaugural Jewish Culture Month. The oversized pickle has made appearances at several prominent cultural landmarks, including the Tate Modern and Southbank Centre, as part of a campaign to raise awareness for the newly established celebration.
Organized by the Board of Deputies of British Jews and commencing on 16 May, the month-long festival encompasses over 150 events across diverse disciplines, ranging from culinary arts and music to comedy, architecture, fashion, film and literature. Participating institutions include the V&A Museum, National Portrait Gallery, the British Library and the National Holocaust Museum. Liat Rosenthal, the Board's director of culture, education and communities, explained that the initiative emerged in response to the antisemitism faced by Jewish communities since October 2023, and aims to showcase the remarkable contributions of British Jews to national life.
