A minister spoke about Indigenous children today. Her name is Malarndirri McCarthy. She is the minister for Indigenous Australians. She talked about early childhood education. More First Nations children are now in preschool. This is a good step. She called it a milestone. A milestone is an important goal.
The Aboriginal community helped with this. People in preschool also helped. But there are still problems. Many other Closing the Gap goals are not met. One big problem is jail rates. Too many Indigenous people are in jail. This makes the minister sad.
She says the government must do more. They must ask states and territories to help. Justice is the problem. States control the police and courts. The minister wants them to change the laws. This is a very hard task.
