Mountain Bongos Return Home After Journey From Europe

A landmark wildlife conservation initiative has culminated in the successful repatriation of four mountain bongos to Kenya following prolonged captivity in European collections. The animals, designated Fitz, Maue, Kudu and Bon64, arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport aboard a cargo aircraft, marking the culmination of a decades-long collaborative effort to rescue the species from the brink of extinction. Wildlife officer Ngenoh Erick Kibet and animal keeper Christine Gichohi, both employed at the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy, undertook their first international journey to Czechia, where they spent a fortnight at a quarantine facility learning each bongo's behavioral patterns and establishing rapport with the reclusive antelopes prior to their return voyage.
