Newsom Calls Republican Redistricting Efforts 'Stone-Cold Racism'

California Governor Gavin Newsom strongly criticized Republican efforts to eliminate voting districts with majority-Black populations. He called this practice "Jim Crow 2.0" and described it as outright racism that he never expected to see in modern America. The U.S. Supreme Court has supported these redistricting efforts in former Confederate states.

In Louisiana, Governor Jeff Landry made a controversial move by cancelling a primary election where over 42,000 ballots had already been cast. He halted the voting process to implement new district maps. The new maps would effectively eliminate two Congressional districts that currently give Black voters significant political representation.
