One Nation, the right-wing populist party led by Pauline Hanson, claims to be the only Australian political party willing to question climate science. However, this position has attracted significant criticism from the scientific community. The connection between burning fossil fuels and rising temperatures has been understood for 130 years. One Nation continues to deny that the planet or Australia is warming. Earlier versions of their policies were copied from the Galileo Movement, a climate denial group now shut down. Malcolm Roberts, a former coalminer, ran this group before becoming a One Nation senator. Professor Sarah Perkins-Kirkpatrick from Australian National University called One Nation's stance 'like saying the Earth is flat'. She says extreme weather events have been increasing worldwide since the 1950s.
