Six people were found dead inside a freight train car at a rail yard near the Texas-Mexico border on Sunday. A Union Pacific employee discovered the bodies while inspecting a stopped train in Laredo before it was scheduled to continue north. All six people were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police officials.
Authorities said temperatures reached above 90 degrees Fahrenheit when the bodies were discovered around 2:30 PM. Police are working to determine the cause of death and have not yet identified the victims or confirmed their immigration status. The incident follows a similar event in 2024 when 20 migrants were rescued from a locked train compartment in Laredo after becoming dehydrated.
