Many people want a green funeral. A green funeral does not hurt the Earth. In the US, many trees fall for coffins. The land is as big as Hawaii. That is 1.6 million hectares. The wood could build 4.5 million homes. Cremation also hurts the air. One cremation equals driving 3,369 kilometers. Some countries have no space for graves.
Now there are new ways to say goodbye. Water cremation is one new way. The body goes into hot water. The water is 170 degrees hot. The water also has alkali in it. The alkali breaks the body down. Then the remains are dried. Then the remains are ground into powder. The powder goes into an urn. Scotland started this in March 2026. England and Wales are talking about it. Australia and other places allow it too.
Composting is another way. The body goes into a box. The box has dry straw or wood chips. Tiny germs eat the body. The body turns into soil. The soil goes into a wooden box. Ireland and Germany do this already. Australia also uses this method.
