The UN has a big plan. The plan is about fish farms. Fish farms grow fish in water. A team wants farm fish to rise by 75 percent. They want this by the year 2040. The plan is part of the blue transformation. Blue transformation means more food from the sea. More fish can feed more people. This is the goal of the UN team.
But some people say the plan is absurd. Absurd means silly or wrong. Here is the problem. Wild fish get caught and ground up into small pieces. These pieces become food for farmed fish. Salmon and shrimp eat this fish food. Wild fish like anchovies and sardines get caught. Workers grind these fish into powder. The powder goes into salmon and shrimp food. This is not a natural process.
A team looked at this problem. They found that almost half of wild fish caught in the ocean would go into fish food. That is a huge amount. Small fishing towns could lose their food. Coastal communities depend on these wild fish. A man named Muhammed Oyinlola studied this. He said there are better ways. Some fish need less wild fish to grow. Farmers can grow these fish instead. This is better for the ocean.
