Mosquitoes carry bad germs. These germs make people sick. Dengue is one sickness. West Nile is another. These sicknesses are moving to new places. Europe now has these sicknesses. Spain has some cases. Climate change helps this happen. Travel between countries helps too. But we do not know one thing. How do mosquitoes live with these germs?
A team did a test. They looked at mosquito cells. They looked at human cells. Germs act different in each. In people, germs take over cells. The cells make many germ parts. Then the cells die. In mosquitoes, it is different. Germ parts build up inside. But the cells do not make many germ parts. This keeps the mosquito alive. The name for this is translational repression. It means the cell slows down the germs.
This is good news. It shows a new way to help people. If we use this way, mosquitoes may not spread sickness. This could help many people. Doctors want to find new ways to stop these sicknesses. They study how mosquitoes live with germs.
