Oura has announced the Ring 5, positioning it as the world's smallest smart ring as the company moves toward a public listing. The Finnish-American firm has achieved a 40% reduction in size relative to its predecessor while maintaining comprehensive health-monitoring capabilities. The 2.28mm device tracks sleep quality, stress levels, and cardiovascular metrics in a form factor resembling conventional jewellery rather than wearable technology. Pricing starts at £399, plus a £5.99 monthly subscription, with shipments commencing on 4 June.
Founded in 2013, Oura has distributed 5.5 million rings across 150 countries, accumulating approximately 5 million paying subscribers and reaching $1 billion in annual revenue. With a current valuation of $11 billion, the company is preparing for an IPO. The smart ring category, though still modest compared to the 175 million smartwatches shipped annually, is expanding rapidly, with 4 million units dispatched in 2025. Oura has established over 1,200 partnerships with sports organisations, including the Football Association, US Soccer, and the US Open.
